Gussie & Me Days

Thursdays are Gussie & Me days, each week we try to do something together. Sometimes we go on outings, other times we might just go to the shops, yesterday was a stay-at-home day. We kept super busy though.

Firstly we did a bit of painting................

Then we did a bit of baking.........................

and of course eating.................................

Then a bit of bubble blowing...........................

and some more eating..............................

God must have been looking down on me yesterday as my egg was perfection. Good old 'Egg and Soldiers', you can't beat it. My friend Patti said that they don't really do it over here, I might have to do a 'Jamie Oliver' and introduce 'Egg and Soldiers' to the children of America. I feel that they are missing out on this childhood classic.

Cooking is slightly tricky in Colorado because of the altitude. Cakes seem to cause the most trouble, I read in one book to just crank the oven up an extra 25 degrees and I must say that it seems to work for me. It has however taken me ages to work out the boiled egg times, I am so use to the three minute rule that I am forever throwing eggs away, (well giving them to the dogs) in fear of subjecting salmonella to my loved ones. I think you have to be bold in the 'mile high city' and boil your eggs for 6-7 minutes for a soft centred delight. Oh the trials and tribulations of living overseas!!!

  1. Yum! I'm a naughty english mummy that has never introduced egg & soldiers to her offspring. However she will get to enjoy the delights of roasted carrots, potatoes & chicken pie today... all thanks to a friend's recommendation & Trisha Yearwood's cookbook. Roll on the demise of the weather & the consumption of 'comfort food'. Scrum!
