In England, if you are a bit strapped for cash over the festive period or you are a little hungry, you have always got the option of carol singing. You can just turn up at someones' front door and start singing away. It is usually better if there is a group of you and if you know all the words, as it tends to make a better impression. People will then open the door, listen to you sing and then either give you some money or at least a mince pie. I suppose it is the English equivalent of trick or treating. I love this tradition and get so excited when they turn up at my front door. Some carry candles or lanterns and they often wear Santa hats. Such great fun.
I have had so many emails asking me where are the January kits sneak peeks. I have got to be honest with you, I feel slightly loathed to post them before Christmas. I don't really want to think about January yet, I just want to enjoy this Christmas countdown and all the wonder that it brings. So I will be posting them after Christmas. Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm.
I love carol singing. A groupof us went last Friday. Instead of asking for money we gave away chocolates, so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI really miss The Lions Club Father Christmas float that used to come around the neighbourhood playing carols. Carol singers at the front door & gents walking around collecting for charities...
ReplyDeleteMONEY!!!????!!! Never heard of that! We just give carolers some hot chocolate and maybe a candy cane. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI love when Hugh Grant goes carol singing as the Prime Minister in "Love, Actually"!
